Michael Upwall

Completing his Masters of Architecture at the University of Utah in 1991, Upwall went on that same year to found Upwall Design Architects.

As a Utah native, Upwall has a critical understanding of the State's unique topography, climate, and geography. He blends this knowledge with cutting-edge drafting skills to create dream homes that not only can withstand their severe environment, but compliment the natural beauty of their surroundings.

It is his belief that a home should literally “grow” out of the earth; a natural extension of the landscape. A home should be an organic entity, truly timeless in nature, and should present itself as if it has always been there.

This nature friendly philosophy has its roots in the Craftsman Movement, exemplified in the works of Green and Green and Frank Lloyd Wright. Incorporating this organic philosophy into the design of structures for extreme environments serves as a cornerstone for Upwall's self-described “Mountain Craftsman" Architecture.
